Who your agreement is with

Driving tuition is supplied under the L Stars Driving School trading name by Waqar Hussain, DVSA Approved Driving Instructor.

Lesson prices

Any future price change will be explained before it applies. Tuition already paid for will not be retrospectively increased.

Booking & payment

• Lessons and blocks are paid in full in advance by bank transfer unless another arrangement is agreed in writing.
• A requested slot is confirmed once payment has been received and L Stars has confirmed the booking.
• Advance payments are recorded. You can ask for your remaining prepaid balance at any time.
• Lesson time can include briefing, practical driving, coaching, reflection and debriefing.

24-hour cancellation policy

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a lesson.

• 24 hours or more: the lesson can normally be rearranged and the payment carried forward.
• Less than 24 hours or a no-show: a charge may be made up to the value of the booked lesson where the reserved time cannot reasonably be filled. Any charge will reflect the actual loss and will not be a penalty.
• If the slot is filled, or the actual loss is lower, the charge will be reduced accordingly.
• Exceptional circumstances will be considered fairly.

If L Stars cancels or either of us is late

If I cancel, you will not pay for tuition not supplied; the payment will be rearranged or refunded. If you arrive late, the lesson will normally still finish at the agreed time. If I arrive late, I will make up the time where practical or provide a suitable credit or refund.

Licence, eyesight & fitness to drive

• You must hold a valid licence that entitles you to learn in the tuition vehicle. I may ask for information needed to check your entitlement to drive.
• You must meet the legal eyesight standard. A number-plate eyesight check will be carried out on the first lesson and may be repeated during training.
• If you need glasses or contact lenses to meet the standard, you must wear them whenever you drive.
• You are responsible for complying with DVLA rules about any medical condition or disability that may affect driving.
• Do not attend if alcohol, drugs, medication, illness or extreme tiredness makes you unfit to drive safely. A lesson may be stopped or not started if I reasonably believe it is unsafe or unlawful for you to drive.

During lessons

• Follow reasonable safety instructions and do not use a handheld mobile phone while driving.
• Treat the instructor, other road users and the tuition vehicle with respect. Serious abusive, threatening or discriminatory behaviour may result in tuition ending.
• I may use verbal instruction or the dual controls where necessary to keep the lesson safe.
• I will keep a record of lessons and progress and discuss future training needs with you.

Prepaid blocks & refunds

A block buys a set amount of tuition in advance. Lessons are deducted as they are supplied, and the normal 24-hour cancellation policy applies to appointments booked from a block.

If you decide to stop lessons, you can request a refund of unused prepaid tuition. The calculation will be:

• the amount originally paid for the block;
• less the value of lessons already supplied, calculated at the standard pay-as-you-go rate that applied when the block was purchased;
• less any reasonable direct loss L Stars is legally entitled to recover from a cancellation where that loss could not reasonably be avoided. The same loss will not be deducted twice.

Ending tuition

Either of us can end the tuition arrangement. I may end tuition for a valid reason such as persistent non-payment, repeated missed lessons, serious safety concerns, abusive behaviour, loss of legal entitlement to drive, or a breakdown in the professional working relationship that makes safe tuition impracticable. Except where a lawful deduction is justified, unused prepaid tuition will be refunded.

Practical driving tests & use of the L Stars car

You are responsible for booking, changing and cancelling your own practical car driving test under the current DVSA rules. Please speak to me before booking or moving a test so we can discuss readiness, test centre and instructor availability.

• Only the learner taking the test can book or manage the car-test appointment.
• Current rules allow only 2 changes to an existing booking and restrict where a test can be moved. Always check GOV.UK because DVSA rules can change.
• To automatically receive a full refund of the DVSA car-test fee, current rules require at least 10 full working days’ notice when cancelling.
• The DVSA test fee is separate from any L Stars lesson or test-package charge.

Using the L Stars car

Booking a DVSA test does not automatically guarantee use of the tuition vehicle. Use is subject to instructor availability, payment of the agreed package, valid learner/test documents, the vehicle remaining suitable and roadworthy, and me being reasonably satisfied from your recent driving that you can drive safely and independently at an appropriate standard for presentation to a practical test.

If you have mainly learned with another instructor or in a private vehicle, I may require one or more assessment lessons before agreeing to provide the L Stars car.

I may refuse or withdraw use of the school car if I reasonably believe it would be unsafe, unlawful or professionally inappropriate. Where a readiness concern can reasonably be identified in advance, I will aim to give enough notice for you to manage the DVSA booking and avoid unnecessary loss of the test fee.

Bookings made by phone, WhatsApp or online

Where the statutory 14-day cancellation right applies, you can cancel the overall contract within that period without giving a reason.

• If you ask for a lesson to take place during the 14-day period, you expressly request L Stars to begin providing the service before the cancellation period has ended.
• If you later exercise a statutory right to cancel after tuition has started, you may have to pay a proportionate amount for services already supplied.
• Where the service has been fully performed within the cancellation period following the legally required request and acknowledgement, the statutory right to cancel may end.
• These statutory rights are separate from the 24-hour policy for cancelling or rearranging an individual lesson appointment.

Privacy, questions & complaints

Personal information will be used only as reasonably needed to manage bookings, payments, progress records, safety, test arrangements and communication, and will not be shared unnecessarily. Photos, testimonials or identifiable success stories will only be used with appropriate permission.

If something is not right, please contact L Stars first so I can review it and try to resolve it quickly. If a complaint remains unresolved, you can seek consumer advice from Citizens Advice. Concerns about an approved driving instructor’s professional conduct can also be raised with DVSA at [email protected].

Your statutory rights & acceptance

Nothing in these terms removes or restricts your rights under consumer law. L Stars will provide tuition with reasonable care and skill.

These terms should be provided on or before your first lesson. By booking and paying for tuition after receiving them, you confirm that you have had the opportunity to read them. Any material future change will be communicated before it applies and will not retrospectively increase the price of tuition already paid for.
